Icarus: A Hard Light for Photo/Video

Tons of ads pop up in our various feeds about fancy lights for photography and making videos.

They’re all a bit sexy and have a number of modes and other bells and whistles. This gets reflected in the price.

However, sometimes you need neither bells nor whistles. You just want a simple accent light. So, we made one. It uses USB-C for power, is silent (due to the 10x10cm heatsink) and has a CRI of 80 or 90 depending on the LED you go for and is about 5.5 thousand lumens bright. Here’s a video of it in action.

The description of how we built one is on our GitHub repository.
